The Book
Having studied Arabic grammar at a previous Quran-specific Arabic course, I find this book to be very refreshing. It presents the Arabic language in a simple, easy to understand way. It follows a logical sequence and builds on from each lesson, allowing the student to establish a solid foundation before moving forward to the next lesson. From the very first lesson, one is able to speak and understand short sentences, which become longer as you progress through the book. This gives the student confidence and creates an excitement to learn more and speak more fluently. The grammar aspect is incorporated into the lesson where required. In this way, the language becomes accessible and one is not bogged down or intimidated by the grammar which can be very abstract to a beginner. I am really enjoying studying from this book, which I believe will put me in a good position to both converse in the Arabic language AND understand the Quran better Insha’Allah.
The Teacher
Sheikh Anwar Adamson is an extremely passionate and motivated teacher. These characteristics are so important in a teacher, especially when students may find something difficult to understand and become demotivated. He always ensures that all his students understand the lesson before moving on and takes a personal interest in the progress of each student. His dedication to his students and their progress is an extremely rare quality in a teacher today. It is this dedication that inspires his students to do their very best. He also brings in a lot of humour into his teaching, which ensures that his students never forget the lesson! Whilst most of us appreciate the humour (even when we are the subject of the joke!) others may be a bit more sensitive to it or feel intimidated by it, causing them to stay away.
